Tenzin Yewong Dongchung is a doctoral student of early modern Tibet and China. She studies Sino-Tibetan relations in the Qing dynasty through the history of material culture.
Her dissertation project explores the formation of Tibetan Buddhist printing network in Inner Asia (1661-1799) through two sites. First, she focuses on the Qing imperial court and the administration. With the vast resources available to the emperors, they invested in expanding printing workshops and undertook multiple productions of Buddhist canons. Second, spurred by this patronage, monasteries on Sino-Tibetan borderlands beyond started operating printing workshops, and used their network of monks and merchants to circulate books across Inner Asia.
