Lhashamgyal: My Journey in Fiction-writing

Author and scholar Lhashamgyal, a leading voice in a new generation of Tibetan writers, will talk about his development as a writer of fiction and essays, a path that has led him to numerous literary awards and acclaim among Tibetan and international literary circles alike.

Lhashamgyal, who hails from Trika County in Amdo, has an academic background in Tibetan Studies and Tibetan literature, and a Ph.D in anthropology. He currently serves as a researcher and Vice Director in the Religion Research Institute of the China Tibetology Research Center (Beijing). For his outstanding contributions in his scholar role, he has twice received the Center’s highest recognition from the Center, the Qomolangma Award.

In his literary career, Lhashamgyal has published 10 books written in Tibetan, Chinese, and also works of translations. He is a five-time recipient of the prestigious Drangchar literary award, and numerous other such prizes, including the China Nationality Literature Award, and the National Steed Award for Minority Literature. His short stories and essays have been translated into English and Chinese, and his novel The Dear One from Tibet བོད་ཀྱི་གཅེས་ཕྲུག, into Japanese and forthcoming in French.
